WHAT A YEAR!

“A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun.  Enjoy the trip.”  ~Author Unknown

Baby Dre is O-N-E! This has been both the longest and shortest year of my life…but it is still hard to believe that the first year has passed. We have a happy healthy little man who keeps us entertained every minute of the day.

I saw the idea for these photographs on Pinterest and knew immediately that I HAD to try this with Dre. I know I’m completely biased…but I think he is ADORBS!

Noah turns 7

Dude!  I have a 7-year-old?!  What a year.  The transition from kindergarten to first grade was hard.  Longer days, timed math tests, timed sight words, new playground rules…Wow!  It stresses ME out!  He only likes school ‘sometimes’, which I actually think means ‘never’.  It’s a good thing for outlets like Tae Kwon Do and track!

Here Noah answers some very important questions but you’ll notice he has a hard time committing to some of his answers…

1..Use one word to describe yourself.  Nice.

2..What do you want to be when you grow up?  A policeman, but then you never know when you could get killed by a bad guy so maybe a person who studies animals.

3..Where will you live?  In the forest with the animals.

4..What is your favorite food?  I don’t know!  I have so many favorites.  Sushi, I guess.

5..If you could be a superhero, who would you be?  Black Panther

6..Who is your best friend?  I don’t think I can narrow it down but it would be Cy or Mateo.

7..What do you think of girls?  I don’t really think about them that much.

8..Do you wish you had more brothers and sisters in your family?  No.   Well, maybe baby Dre.

9..What’s your favorite thing to do?  Play with my dad.

10..How old are you when you’re an adult?  20 or 30.  I think 20 because you’re 20 something right?

Christmas in Japantown

This year to keep with our Christmas tradition we got out-of-town and stayed at yet another beautiful Joie de Vivre boutique hotel.  The modern anime themed Hotel Tomo located in Japantown, San Francisco looked like something the boys would get a kick out of.  We drove in Christmas day, explored Japantown, dined on udon, tempura and sushi and then went back to the hotel to build Noah’s (purely coincidental) Ninjago Lego’s.

How fun is this disposable camera?  Jenn picked this up for my birthday and I know, I know, we weren’t in Chinatown but still…fun right?  Some of the fortunes were just too perfect!

Monday @ 2

What does your Monday at 2pm look like? That was the idea of our photo project for this week. We enlisted the help of family and friends across the globe and armed with camera phones and canons, this is what we came up with….

Photos in order of timezone:

Extensive hours on the beach leads to the mastering of the handstand. Surfers Paradise as a back drop is merely a coincidence. But never the less, a nice touch.

Enjoying an hour of quiet time while Dre naps…candy, people.com and maybe even some facebook creep time.

Today was about enjoying the beautiful sunshine + being outdoors, I just got home from a fun shoot of my niece + nephew and took my Mom’s pup for a run down by our pond.   The ice has been melting on with this incredibly mild winter weather.

 Winter
I wake with intent walk farther gather what falls carry it folded in the hollow of my hand—like garbage—like hope I can’t remember the smallest promises.

Monday’s errands.  And there is a lot of them.   Library, bank, post office, gas station, Walgreens and Walmart, with a 4-year-old in tow.  All before picking up Noah from school in 45min?  Yeh, not gonna happen!

We plan to do this project again…so let us know if you’d like to participate!

Annual convention of NERDS….um…i mean….

This year The Society of Neuroscience gathered in Washington, DC for their annual meeting. While Wayne the brain attended lectures, presented and did all kinds of smart stuff, Dre and I ripped around the city to check out the sights.  I’m a huge fan of this clean and beautiful city.  So many free museums to check out and although I’m usually bored with the history babble, there is something about Washington that makes it somewhat interesting.

I swear that everyone who lives downtown either jogs or does some form of outdoor physical activity – which makes the city seem fresh and energetic.  Not to mention that the people are so kind – either that or I’m beginning to think that the rude New Yorker is the norm?!  A few images from our week…

And my darling little man in the beautiful fall leaves.

Since we sometimes blog about fashion…I thought I’d add these last pictures. There was a rally around the White House which had all these people riding around on bicycles. They were dressed in this very ‘Mad Men’ style…and I loved it!
