Gray Lodge Wildlife Refuge is a vacation destination to approximately 2 million migrating birds that pass through California. My husband and I often hike the area, binoculars and camera in hand, with our own ‘wild ones’ looking for creatures all shapes and sizes. This makes it difficult to actually photograph the wildlife–lets just say they get a little disturbed!
The Sutter Buttes, the worlds smallest mountain range, make a beautiful backdrop for the sanctuary. The buttes are the remnants of an ancient volcano, and are the only interruption in the 500 miles of fertile plains that make up the Central Valley.
