What makes us smile – west coast

We thought it would be fun to occasionally share what has made us smile in hopes of making you smile too: )

“Today, give a stranger one of your smiles.  It might be the only sunshine he sees all day.  ~Quoted in P.S. I Love You, compiled by H. Jackson Brown, Jr.”

This kills me…  “Mom, why is there a mirror in our backyard?” as he proceeds to check himself out.  And how do you not notice that your bum is eating your shorts?!  Russia, our dog, appears to be puzzled as well.  Just not sure if it’s about Noah or the mirror?

Russia, our chihuahua mix, is such a skittish dog that it’s next to impossible to get a photo of her.  I look at this picture and I can smell her dog breath!

ahhhh…sleeping babies.  Loving the books surrounding him.

Happy Mother’s Day!  The Cooke boys know how to spoil their mom! Guess where I’m headed come September?!

According to Noah’s drawing I should probably look into getting my ears pinned back??!!

What makes us smile – eastcoast

Along my travels I tend to find things that bring a smile to my face. Maybe its the smiley face I see in my cappuccino foam or something random or shocking I’ve seen in the streets of New York….I’ve learnt to never leave the house without some type of camera on me (yay for phone cams). Here’s a few that made my week:

I love it when people leave notes in their library books (intentionally or unintentionally). I’ve come across letters, sticky notes, post secret type confessions…..One time a person had a book list…and it had the exact 3 other novels I was looking for too!

We were down at Seaport Village in Manhattan….and look at what I saw!!
Seriously…Regina!? Random.

The campus here is stunning…hundreds of flowers, trees and huge lawns. Most of the flowers and trees are labeled…I guess someone on the research campus has a sense of humor….tee hee.

Every time I look at my plant I smile. (If you know my dad you will understand why the next part is funny) When I bought my aloe vera plant my dad said, “Okay…now every morning you have to say, ‘allo vera! allo!'”

Butterflies

Happy 4th Birthday Princess Emily!  After years of dinosaur themed birthdays it was refreshing to go to a frothy girly party.  Tutus, butterflies, flowers and everything frou frou.  The boys were easily entertained enough with the bugs and bubble wrap from one of the gifts.   Noah informed his dad later that “sometimes my brain doesn’t like girls”…lets just see how long that lasts!

A walk in the Lower East Village

I haven’t spent much time down on the Lower East Side of Manhattan…so decided to take a little walk down there. Each area in Manhattan is very unique…The lower east side being very young, hip and ….gritty .

The neighborhood is full of interesting people….It makes me feel like wearing my Dr. Martens, brightly colored tights and my bowling hat. Oh! And I can’t help but mention that Lady Gaga grew up in this area…RaRa Oh lala!

I found this interesting….because of the new buildings and developments in the area, the neighborhood has been placed on the list of America’s Most Endangered Places. Who knew there was such thing…?

A few shots from the day:

If I have to be honest…this was the REAL reason I came to the Lower East Side….to check out this candy store-and I wasn’t disappointed.

Eventually the Lower East Side leads into Chinatown. A few from there….

Loved this couple. Just the two of them selling headbands on the street corner, sitting on crates…makes me wonder what their story is…I’m sure its amazing.

Pretty smart {teens + seniors}

For this shoot I got to head over to the Beale Airforce Base, which was a new adventure for me. Even though we spent most of our time avoiding rattlesnake holes and mosquitos, my model was a trooper! I was pleased to get to know Ashley and hear her mature outlook on her future.  Sorry boys…this beauty is more interested in fulfilling her dream of becoming a surgeon!  Who says you can’t be beautiful AND brainy?
