FAT55

Its been a while since I’ve been inspired to pick up my camera gear and get out and shoot…but when my husband and his friend entered the FAT55 race and asked us to come along–I charged up my camera battery! The FAT55 is a 55 mile mountain bike race that takes place in Oakridge, Oregon. Oakridge is a small town in the middle of the Willamette Forest…with the trees, mountains and fog just begging to be photographed.

Don’t let the photos fool you…the race is 55 miles of technical and challenging trails…but being 6 months pregnant…I stuck to the lower areas to take photos. My husband finished the race successfully–with all his bones intact! And of course my son thought this was a pretty awesome day…his new word, “COOL!”

Oh Canada!

Always so much memory making when back home in Saskatchewan.  Boat races in the stream, swimming and story telling over the fire.  Snake/frog/moose hunting, valley exploration and food (pizza pops), food (Old Dutch chips), and food (fish head soup)!  And it wouldn’t be a trip to the Petays house without a boom and something flying through the air.    instagram2

AND this happened!!  Our large family is hard to get together all at one time much less convince everyone to pose for a family picture!  When planning our trip home it didn’t look as though we’d all overlap at any point.  So this actually wasn’t suppose to happen but here we all are…together for a couple of hours AND making time for a family photograph!

Breanna Megan Studio {artist}

When the girls and I were planning last-minute details for our trip to Vegas, we realized we wanted to try to fit in a shoot together.  So a week before we left (crazy, right?!) I made some calls in search of someone willing to model.  What we ended up with was so much more than we could have expected on such short notice!

Meet Bre of Breanna Megan Studio.  Bre was getting ready to launch her website and needed images of her new 2013 art collection being released this Spring.  Licensed with the largest wall decor manufacturer in the Unites States, Breanna creates collections sold across North America.  Her work is an absolute reflection of her.  Like her art, she brings joy and charm to whatever room she’s in.

WPPI 2013 – Las Vegas

I like to think of WPPI Las Vegas as one stop shopping for Wedding + Portrait Photographers.  Classes, workshops, speakers, networking and a massive trade show all under one roof.  It’s like a Costco for photographers! This year I was excited to navigate through it all with 3 other photographers.  The fabulous Brandi, Jenelle and Laurie. Not only did we attend the convention which was inspiring and educating beyond words but somehow managed to sneak out to the desert for a shoot!

 WPPI 2013

When in Vegas one does not often see the sun rising, but come WPPI week – you snooze you lose!

"NYNY in the morning"

Our shoot in the desert was beyond cool!  A trending artisan living in Las Vegas getting ready to unveil her 2013 Spring/Summer Collection let us photograph her and her vibrant amazing work!  Check back in a few weeks to see some images of this effervescent artist and her work.

I stepped off the plane feeling excited and motivated for what was ahead and grateful for photographers out there willing to share their knowledge in an ever-changing industry.  So much information was freely shared (not to mention the swag I brought home)!

Here’s to a year of growth and change!

drinking the fog

It’s been a few very busy months since we have moved to the west coast and while Eugene is very unique and hip…it is not quite New York-as far as fun celebs and events to go photograph! So I’ve been a little slow to find things to post here on the blog.

I went from being surrounded by huge amazing buildings (and didn’t think anything could beat that view) to being surrounded by these huge amazing trees.  When seeing them covered by a misty fog, it takes my breath away. Here are a few snaps from this week.
