New York Fashion Week, February 11, 2011

Spring Fashion Week in New York! Ahh…I love it! A few shots from my first day at Lincoln Center.

Inside the main building….Mercedes and DHL were sponsors.

This season, Mercedes-Benz, created a “Fashion Force.” The car company teamed up with top fashion influencers, bloggers, and stylists to drive around in a specially-marked CLS to identify the “hottest, chicest, most fashionable people in New York.”

The action outside

Famous Bobby and Louis chillin’ between shows

The countdown has started!

Only 18 days until New York Fashion Week! For the past 3 years I’ve attended and loved every minute of freezing my toes off waiting for the celebs to attend the shows. However, this whole baby thing is cramping my style in more ways than one! Standing for 10 hours a day in the freezing cold, shoving it out with other camera men on slippery sidewalks and running the whole day on adrenaline….is probably not the ideal place for a 8 month pregnant lady…wah!

So this seasons coverage will be a few blog posts short of last seasons. Nonetheless, I’d feel lost if I missed the whole event…so I’ll be heading there for only a day or two. There will be a few things different this season.  Rather than battling it out with the paparazzi…I’ll be creeping a few feet back with my zoom lens, rather than running backwards to get the perfect shot of Heidi Klum…I’ll likely be running for my ever-so-often bathroom breaks and instead of trying to look all fashionable and cute…WAIT! there is NO excuse…a lady should always strive to be fashionable and cute…even with a giant watermelon strapped to her stomach:)

Fingers crossed for an Olsen sighting this year!

A few celeb shots from fall 2010…

the family

Our Fashion Week Family. Every season I look forward to seeing all the familiar faces at fashion week and this year was no different. We are a unique crew….from all over the world, all different ages, all different interests and yet we are able to have an absolute blast together! If it weren’t for this crew….Fashion week just wouldn’t be as fun!

We’ve been asked for fashion advice from Fashion Week….but I hardly feel like I can give any advice. So I turned to the witty advice of Tim Gunn and Victoria Beckham.

Tim Gunn: “I am not a fashion stylist, I’m a fashion therapist.”

Tim Gunn: “Most women wear clothes that are too big-that’s the comfort trap. Women don’t want to feel constrained, but I say, if you want to dress to feel as though you never got out of bed, then don’t.”

Tim Gunn: “Style is a fingerprint made up of a person’s point of view and taste. What we choose to wear and how we choose to wear it sends a message about how we want the world to perceive us.”

Victoria Beckham: “Find me a woman who doesn’t love accessories! They are like toys for grown-ups, aren’t they?”

Victoria Beckham: “Shoes are probably every woman’s number-one accessory. Maybe it’s a Cinderella complex, but there is just such great pleasure to be had in looking down at your feet and seeing something fabulous.”

Victoria Beckham: “Sometimes it seems easier to just follow the trends or make yourself look older. Don’t do it. Don’t listen to the voices that say you have to look a certain way. Fashion is about looking like you. Make a good foundation, then add those little details to bring it up to date. Listen to your inner voice. No one knows better than you what makes you feel good about yourself and look fantastic”

And the rest of it…

And you thought all we did was hang out a Lincoln Center?!!  Oh no, not a moment of my precious kid-free time was wasted .  We caught a live taping of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, soaked in the sights of the Brooklyn Bridge, enjoyed authentic pierogies (sweet potato and cheese) and borscht at a little restaurant called Little Poland.  (please tell me you all have tried pierogies?)  We were all over town…Columbus Circle, East Village, Diamond District, Mid Town, Canal St., Soho and the Upper West Side.  And we shopped (obviously), ate square pizza and made Clive take us home in his pedicab!  Whew!

Inside Lincoln Center snatching freebies from FIJI water and Starbucks

The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in-house band The Roots gave out drummer ?uest love’s sticks after the show….yep….Jenn got them!
