Melissa’s Runway to Reality {Second Edition}

We were thrilled to hear the response on our last Runway to Reality post + decided to go for it again after this recent runway season. Never ones to turn down an opportunity to shop, we’ve spent the last few weeks watching the racks for some of this years runway trends. Inspired both by Fall/Winter 2015 + Spring/Summer 2016, here are a few I thought I’d visit this season.

The Crop Top with a little Print Blocking thrown in: The crop top had its moment in the sun…or so you thought. With this genius trend you can transition it to fall/winter. Keep it in your closet for some extra shelf life by pulling it over tunics, button ups + dresses. To be honest I wasn’t much of a crop top girl this summer but now I wish I had a few more to play with!

I also experimented with Print Blocking. Thanks to inspiration from We, the Timeless, I have had a little foray into print on print with my husbands dress shirts + ties. Now I’m ready to accept the challenge and pull more looks together with already-there pieces in my closet!

Victorian Blousing: Crisp lace, high collars + bows as seen from Monique Lhuillier, Alberta Ferretti + Philosophy di Lorenzo. Not much of a frilly or romantic girl, my first thought is ‘Pass!’. So because I favor more of an edgy look, I paired the blousing with suiting. To further this trend imma gonna hit the racks again in search of a blouse with a big floppy bow.

Poncho/Cape: So. Many. Ponchos. The selection out there is endless right now. Fur, fringe, belted, printed, take your pick! The tricky part is proportion. Being the height of an ant, I tend to drown in them so when I found this one at Anthro it had to come home with me. Oh, + how cute would it be with a big bowed Victorian blouse as seen below?!

Vanessa’s Runway to Reality {Second Edition}

Green: To be truthful I hate the color green because it reminds me of money and my lack thereof. However, seeing it on the runway this season has given me a fresh appreciation for the color and has inspired me to purchase some green pieces of my own. Bonuses of the trend…not only does it look great on any skin tone but because it comes in so many different shades it makes it easy to get your monochrome trend on fleek.

Fringe: When I saw fringe was a trend from NYFW Spring/Summer 2016 I was like HOLLA!! I’ve had this fringe skirt in my closet for a while now but I’ve always felt kinda “flapper girl” wearing it. But thanks to Christian Siriano, Rebecca Minkoff, and Banana Republic, fringe no longer belongs to the “flapper girl” era. Fringe has now been transformed into something that can be seen and worn everywhere, from the tried and true fringe bags, to fringed hemlines and fringed ponchos!

Jenn’s Runway to Reality {Second Edition}

I will admit…I kinda groaned when I saw the orange walking down the runways (Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung and Narciso Rodriguez to name a few). I mean…the only thing that looks good in orange is a Cheeto! If you are like me and orange is not your most flattering color, try wearing it on the bottom..skirt/shorts/shoes and pair it with a more flattering color on top. Experiment with citrus colors or sherbet, mandarin and apricot for something fresh for the spring.

I am loving this fresh new neckline for the spring. It is showing skin…without showing too much skin. Baring the shoulders was a huge trend on the runways and they all did it in different ways…cutouts, extended necklines and the use of sheer material. I chose this sweet dress with the extended neckline…pair it with tights for the fall/winter and sweet sandals for the spring. I love a dress I can wear year round!

This fish net fabric was a fun addition to the runways in Europe. Giving your skirt a little peekaboo action without using the cutouts of last season. And…if you checked out the Yeezy show – you know to pair your colors.  Black on black. White on white. and Beige on beige.

The ‘S’ Family

When you move to a new area there are just some people who make the transition a lot easier. Meet one of the families that has been a saving grace since I stepped foot in the PNW. I enjoyed having these sweet dimpled faces + their parents in front of my lens the other morning. With her little girl creeping up on the one year mark, this mom is very well aware of how quickly time is passing. Here we are at the Snoqualmie River to document their family at this very busy stage!
