Vanessa’s Runway to Reality

Sometimes as I’m watching fashion week I’ll see outfits and be like, “Who would actually wear this?!”.  But this year it seemed that designers have toned it down a few notches and made their ‘ready-to-wear’ collections actually ready-to-wear.  Of course I’ll always be a huge Alexander McQueen fan but I don’t think showing up for work in a fur coat and leather pants would go over too well.

Chunky knits.  Fall is here and rather than pulling out our winter wardrobe we’d rather complain about being cold while looking fab in our shorts. Complain no more!  With chunky knits being in this season that means we can still keep some of our summer favs out, but just toss a cozy knit overtop and tada, fashionista!  Also, as an added bonus it’s a great way to hide those few extra pounds from drinking too many pumpkin spice lattes and eating way too much Hallowe’en candy!

Sneakers. Models are breathing a sigh of relief as sneakers come back into style, and so are my feet! I know they say “no pain, no gain” but having hammer toes from high heels…ew. Designers like DKNY and Chanel rocked the runway with their models sporting sneakers and thanks to them for paving the way.  Now I too can rock it at work in my sneakers and feel like a fashion all-star.

Jenn’s Runway to Reality

My youngest son is almost 10 months…so by now I SHOULD be looking fabulous and have the 2 kids out the door by 9am. But let’s be honest…some days it’s noon and I’m still in my pj’s. I mean, when the baby naps….you DO NOT rummage around in the drawers and open closet doors. Sleeping babies are not to be disturbed, even if the garbage man thinks I only own yoga pants!

With that being said…I have enjoyed following the fashion trends this year. It’s always refreshing to buy a few new items to freshen up your wardrobe. Here are my 2 picks for this fall.

White on White. While I love all the white on white I was seeing on the runway and streets this year, I have to be realistic. When a mom wears white…it’s ASKING for muddy handprints and food smears! I decided to pair a white tee with some fun light acid wash jeans. Perfect for sitting in the sand and not worrying about not getting dirty. Not to mention the rainy season approaching…the wash on these jeans perfectly hide those annoying little splashes that get on my pant legs.

Calf Length skirts.  With the temperatures dropping a bit for the fall weather…why not drop our hemlines a little too?  This is a trend that short people like me tend to stay away from. Skirts this length can cut you off and make you look even shorter. But with the higher waist, shirt tucked in and heels…I think it’s a trend that I can work with.

We, The Timeless

Menswear is timeless.  Golden Rules like;  wide lapels mean a wide tie, brown shoes mean a brown belt, and the tie bar goes between the third and fourth button,  those have been around for years.  We, the Timeless was created to help you incorporate those golden rules into your lifestyle and maybe even teach you how to bend some of those rules.

So whether you are in need of some pointers in the mens fashion world or maybe you have a man in your life that could use some help in that department, go check out: We, The Timeless

Special thanks to co-founders Curtis and Graeme Drummond for letting me be a part of their journey, photographing them and their clothing.

Fall Fashion Week Adventures, Day 3!

My third and final day at NY Fashion Week consisted of 2 big shows…Tracy Reese and Diane Von Furstenberg. I always love a Diane show, it always brings out a variety of interesting people.

And so…back to regular life…back to trips to the park and drinking juicy juice….and just 6 months to convince one (or more) sisters to come for September Fashion Week!!

Beautiful people leaving Tracy Reese:

TV Personality Louise Roe-I just had to show her cute little outfit!

Kate Mara: So I have to admit, I had no idea who this “Kate” was and had to google her once I got home. Interestingly she is from Bedford, NY–just  30 mins away from where we live.  Her Great grandfather was the founder of the NY Giants, which explains why people were commenting to her about the Giants winning the superbowl. Also…her sister is much talked about Rooney Mara-of Dragon Tattoo, who knew!?

Canadian Actress Shenae Grimes (of 90210)…she had fans (even crying fans?!) waiting for her. Weird, no?

Nikki Reed…again

Model Selita Ebanks and boyfriend Terrence J (host of BET’s 106+Park). Cutest couple!!!

Lovely to see the beautiful socialite Tinsley Mortimer again-heading into Custo Barcelona.

Random sighting…Sandra Bernhart

Former SuperModel Beverly Johnson.

More beautiful people attending the Diane Von Furstenberg Show.

Editor in Chief of American Vogue, Anna Wintour.

The beautiful Barbara Walters-she is seriously so rad…I can’t even explain!

Actress Molly Sims, rockin the pregnant glow!

Oscar DeLaRenta

Diane Sawyer

Making grey hair look good, Bravo’s Andy Cohen

Designer/stylist Rachel Zoe and her husband TV personality Rodger Berman. Their baby is the same age as Dre, so Rodger and I had a little chat about our dear sweet babies…how they are crawling and getting into absolutely everything! Yes, hoping for a playdate soon;)

Editor of Marie Claire Joanna Coles, recently seen on Project Runway All Stars as the designer’s mentor.

Marie Claire Fashion Director and Project Runway judge, Nina Garcia.

The beautiful Coco Rocha…what show didn’t she attend!?

Fashion Blogger Bryan Boy.

And last of all, one of my favorite fashion bloggers (and total gentleman) Karl-Edwin Guerre. This guy is one cool cat.

Behind the scenes at Porter Grey

Backstage at Porter Grey!!!

For those of you unfamiliar with this line, Porter Grey is an American contemporary sportswear line, founded and run by sisters Kristen and Alexandra O’Neill.

I love this photo…I think that being backstage is so glamorous! The models, the clothes, the designers, celebs etc. But while that is all true…some parts are simply not so fun. It’s cold. It’s boring as you wait for the next look to get ready. The reporters and photographers are always bumping into each other or getting into each others shot. It’s very small with a hundred people all crowding in. And everyone thinks THEIR job is the most important one of all…PR, security, papps, models etc…  ANYWAYS….I love the reality of this picture….two cold and uncomfortable, bored models amongst all the chaos.

The hair team was led by Rebecca Naftzger for Cutler. “She blow-dried the models’ hair with a round brush and curled it with a one-and-a-half-inch curling iron while leaving out the ends. It created this big subtle wave, which complemented the clothes perfectly.”

Hairstylists lead by Rebecca Naftzger

Jose Rivera, the makeup artist leading the Sephora PRO Beauty team emphasized clean skin; wind-blown cheeks to indicate an outdoorsy, ready-to-face-the-elements strength; a rich and saturated black lash line and an understated and deconstructed lip look with scattered golden shimmer.

A few looks from the show
